Inspiring Optimal & Intentional Living!

Week Five: Be What You Will to Be…and Do It Now!

Keyboard Keys Close Up

This week of my MKMMA journey the phrase “do it now” rang loud and strong.  It is one of the two statements we are instructed to repeat multiple times imprinting a sense of urgency to improving and growing…rethinking and becoming.  As is often the case, I heard and felt rhythm in the words and that was the jumping off point to recording a fun and enthusiastic video to help me fulfill the repetitive assignment.  From there I thought how cool it would be to combine what I was hearing and feeling with one of my favorite songs/soundtracks…Michael Jackson’s “Wanna be Startin’ Something.”  That song always makes me want to move and groove and the associated message in the original song would enhance the assignment even more.  That is when “I Can Be What I Will to Be” was born.  Following is a glimpse of the key components of the lyrics:

I Can Be What I Will To Be by Celeste Jonson (to the Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ soundtrack)

I can be what I will to be (startin’ somethin’) (Repeat 4x)

Do it now, Do it now (yeah yeah)  Do it now, do it now, do it now (yeah yeah) (Repeat 4x)

Mark J, Davene, et. al you see, chose to teach Master Key

Week Four: Mine Your Mind for the Priceless Gems it Holds

“The secret of success isn’t personality, heredity, or education.  There is something more important than any of them: the ability to think!”  Thomas Finley

The MKMMA is all about understanding and leveraging our ability to think!

Well, I have good news, bad news, and great news. The good news is that you are in possession of one of the most amazing and powerful gifts ever—your mind. Everything emanates from the mind.

Your achievements, personal satisfaction and peace are all a result of your thoughts in action and you have total control of that. The bad news is that most people live below what is possible. It is

often said that on average, we only exercise a small fraction of our mental capabilities.

Those who study human capacity and potential agree that most people are capable of doing much more than they’ve done.  I think an appropriate analogy is how we use computers. Most of us use computers in some capacity in our lives. Generally we use a small fraction of their potential power. As with our minds, we use different parts (applications) for different purposes if we understand how it works. We may use the computer for creating a document in a word processor, for laying out data in a spreadsheet, for researching a topic or person using Google, connecting with friends on Facebook or Twitter, and possibly even designing materials using a desktop publishing software. But rarely if ever is the entire expansive capacity fully tapped.  There is so much more that can be accomplished using the very computer we work on. The same is true of our minds.

The great news is you can decide today to more fully use the power of your mind to create, shape and direct your life to one brimming with amazing experiences. Yes, you have what it takes to turn situations around, to elevate your experiences, and even facilitate a miracle in your life. How do I know this? Because I’ve seen it done time and time again!

The logical question then would be, “How does it work? How can I get the most out of my mind and optimize my success?” Good questions. In my book, “D.A.R.E. to Succeed” I talk about four

foundational principles of success. One of them is to exercise discipline in various areas of your life and one of the critical areas needing discipline is your mind—your thinking and feeling instrument. The discipline of your mind begins with a choice. Each day we are given the opportunity to shape and design the life we want. Our ability to make satisfying choices, wise decisions and optimize our success effortlessly are directly impacted by our mental focus and thinking habits.

I encourage you to choose to think your way to success. Choose to learn how your mind works and then leverage the power of your thoughts to design your life in line with your desires and sense of purpose. Yes, the great news is that you can choose right now to mine your mind for the priceless gems it holds.  What will you do?  Whatever it is, do it now!!  Initial RECOMMENDED ACTION: Leave a comment below!

Week Three: Courage, Concentration & Conviction, 3 C’s to Freedom

Most people want to be free…free from worry, free from stress, free to make choices, free to live all out on their terms.  People have fought for it, died for it and hungered for it for as long as recorded history and I imagine even before.  Well let me say right off, the specific context and manifestation of freedom varies by person and circumstance however at the core I believe the three concepts of courage, concentration and conviction are cornerstones to freedom.

Courage.  The dictionary says courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.”  Some say courage is acting despite fear.  Whether without it or in spite of it, courage is an opposing state to fear.  This week in our MKMMA reading fear is discussed significantly.  Fear is considered the one arch enemy to the shining of our personal light and optimal power, and must be destroyed.  One sentence from our reading says of fear, “It is the personal devil which makes men fear the past, the present and the future; fear themselves, their friends and their enemies; fear everything and everybody.”  Further, “…when you can consciously realize your ability to overcome any adverse condition by the power of your thought, you will have nothing to fear.”  Remember the Apostle Paul centuries ago said to his protege Timothy,  “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7).  Our goal then is to be too busy radiating courage, confidence, and power that fear cannot inhibit our ability to live free.  Develop your courage muscles!

Concentration.  One of my favorite sentences in this weeks reading is, “Mentally concentrate on the object of your desire; when you are concentrating you are impressing the subconscious.  It is not the only way, but is a simple and effective way and the most direct way in which the best results are secured.”  Concentration is about paying exclusive attention to one object; a focused application of our mental energies.  In a recent post I talked about how focus contributes to breakthroughs.  Keep in mind the underlying principle of this whole study, is that you become what you think about, as Earl Nightingale put it in his famous recording, The Strangest Secret in the World.  Another way to think of it is the idea of cause and effect…thought is the cause and the resulting experience is the effect.   With that as the premise, it’s just plain smart to concentrate on what you want, affirmative and desirous outcomes vs. anything else.  Focus, concentrate, experience!

Conviction.  Conviction is a fixed or firm belief.  And belief is confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof.  I’ll take it one step forward and say that the state of belief is one in which you don’t know, scientifically that something is or will be, nor do you know exactly how it will come to be, but you have no doubt that it will be…and are not overly concerned about how it happens.  It’s about not knowing how but wholeheartedly expecting that it will be.  What is really cool about this idea is that it is not our charge to “consciously” know how–that is the job of our subconscious mind.  Remember, “it is not necessary to outline the method by which the subconscious will produce the results we desire.  The finite cannot inform the Infinite.”  From a spiritual perspective I would say, finite man, with our limitations, cannot inform God, who is and has infinite resources, how to make things happen.  Our job is to hold the thought–say what we desire and believe, trust that it will be and act accordingly.  The how will show up…and often amaze us.

With courage, concentration and conviction firmly in place we can and should relax…removing all self imposed pressure and eliminate all tensions allowing our mental faculties to  exercise the greatest freedom of all, creation.  Three C’s to freedom. Choose it!!

Week Two: D.A.R.E. to Get Fit for Success-Act With Clarity & Focus

windowslivewriter10c1aa6f87ae-7690clarity-2The title of this blog post was the same one used for a presentation I made this week to a group of women entrepreneurs. As I shared with the group, the title and general approach to the message stems from one of my best selling books, D.A.R.E. to Succeed. Act with Clarity & Focus is one of four foundational success principles highlighted in the book and is the one associated with the letter “A” in the word D.A.R.E.

Although I’ve spoken on this topic many times before, this week it was particularly relevant and powerful because of my MasterKey Mastermind assigned reading. There were two sentences from the Scroll #1 of The Greatest Salesman in the World that just jumped out at me and clearly facilitates acting with clarity and focus. The first sentence addresses how one would indeed become “the greatest salesman” in at least their world and it says paraphrased, “I commence my journey unencumbered with either the weight of unnecessary knowledge or the handicap of meaningless experiences.” I love that sentence because so many of us, including me of course, allow ourselves to be distracted by so very many things i.e. reading endless emailed stories and messages or watching sent videos; watching mindless television programs, investing way too much time discussing subjects that really don’t matter to us or add any valuable meaning to our lives. Can you relate? The suggested alternative is to get and stay focused on what contributes to what you define as successful living. I often say, focus on what you want, not what you don’t want. How can you do this? Begin to diligently and intentionally evaluate the options vying for your attention. Ask, “Will this help me get where I want to go? If yes, how. If not, graciously take a pass.

Of course to be able to make that judgement call, you must be clear of what it is you want…where you are going…and have some idea what the next step is…some clarity!! In part two of the Master Key the opening statement is, “Our difficulties are largely due to confused ideas and ignorance of our true interests. Clear thinking and moral insight are, therefore, of incalculable value.” Indeed that is so true and so many miss the mark. I shared with the group my findings over the years talking with professionals around the world. As a coach especially, one of my first questions is, “What do you want?” I remain amazed today just how many people cannot articulate a succinct answer to that question. They are much more adept at stating what they don’t want. Hence supporting the statement above. Not only are personal difficulties largely due to confused ideas but it is a largely held position.

A major foundational assignment we have in the Mastermind is to flush out our Definite Major Purpose (DMPs) being as precise as possible. One key link between clarity and focus is when you are clear of your desired outcome, it becomes much easier to determine and avoid unnecessary knowledge and meaningless experiences so you can focus.

“Thought concentrated on a definite purpose becomes power.” Wow! How simple, how clear, how true. I’m committed to grasping that power, how about you? Come along with me…I D.A.R.E. you!

Week One: Fresh Start to a New Life!

There is something truly wonderful and refreshing about having a “fresh start.” It’s another chance to begin down the path to optimal and intentional success…another chance to learn, to grow and excel after perhaps falling short of previous desired outcomes.  That is what I am experiencing now with the first week of the MasterKeys Mastermind 2014.  Having participated in this 6-month intensive program last year I know it requires much to just make it through…and I did.  This time, however, knowing the power of the concepts shared compels me to repeat the process — but this time to really master the principles. Only principles endure and the ones shared here have life changing potential.

Appropriately the first scroll we are focusing on from the Greatest Salesman in the World (Og Mandino) is about beginning a new life!  We meditate on each of the 10 scrolls in this long standing best selling book for 30 days each, (so yes, this process goes beyond the length of the official course).  You see, ultimately this Mastermind is about reconditioning your minds and establishing habits that make our desired success not only possible but to achieve it effortlessly.  How exciting!  So, as the last sentence of the first scroll states, “Today my old skin has become as dust.  I will walk tall among men and they will know me not, for today I am a new (wo)man, with a new life.”  So excited to have this fresh start that will lead me to a new life!  Stay tuned for progress reports!
